Three-Year Canadian Immigration Plan Released

Canadian Visa Expert could confirm that the federal government of Canada has released a three-year immigration plan. The plan is to level out the number of new permanent residents in Canada in 2026 to reduce pressure on available and affordable housing.

However, before the measures take effect in 2026, the government has laid out a plan to increase the number of new permanent residents admitted to Canada to 485,000 and 500,000 between 2024 and 2025, respectively.

According to the Canadian immigration minister, Marc Miller, the number of new permanent residents will remain steady at 500,000 in 2026.

Thoughts about the three-year Canadian immigration plan

Canadian Visa Expert says the three-year immigration plan is designed partly for the government to take time to understand the actual impact of immigration on Canada’s economy and population growth. While some economists strongly oppose the plan, the Canadian immigration minister, Marc Miller, emphasized that the positive impact of immigrants on the labor market cannot be overlooked.

“These immigration levels will help set the pace of Canada’s economic and population growth while moderating its impact on critical systems such as infrastructure and housing. Increasing the number of new permanent residents doesn’t create a direct proportional demand for housing. So we are taking the next year to dive into the microeconomic relationship between immigration and Canada's economic and population growth."

More so, Canadian Visa Expert could establish that the majority of new permanent residents are expected to immigrate as part of economic streams under the three-year Canadian immigration plan.
